BYU kept their College Football Playoff hopes alive with a 41-33 home win against Virginia and avenged last years loss. The Cougars at 4-0 is still marching toward an undefeated season as that is their only hope of making the inaugural College Football Playoff.
BYU was down 16-13 going into halftime but then came out strong in the third quarter scoring 14 points and holding the Cavaliers scoreless. There were two late Touchdown drives by the Cavaliers who wanted to keep this interesting but to no avail as the Cougars hold on. QB Tayson Hill had 2 TD passes and added on on the ground.
Virginia had a total of 519 total yards compared to BYU’s 332 and squandered opportunities throughout the game including settling for 4 FGs.
Up next for the 2-2 Cavaliers is a visit from Kent State of the Mid-American Conference while BYU will enjoy the week off before a visit from Utah State on Friday October 3rd.
