BYU and Northern Illinois have agreed to a home-and-home series for 2018 and 2020. Northern Illinois will travel to Provo, Utah to play the Cougars on October 27, 2018 and then BYU will travel to Dekalb, Illinois to take on the Huskies on October 24, 2020. 2018 will mark the first time these two programs have met on the field.
NIU AD Sean Frazier shared,
“BYU is an opponent that will bring a national name and a long tradition of success to our schedule. I think this is a series that will make Huskie fans take notice and realize that we are serious about bringing top-quality opponents to Huskie Stadium and that now is the time to get involved with NIU Football.”
There was speculation that BYU would receive an invite to the Big 12 or that they would be forced to go back to the Mountain West, but the Independent is working hard to schedule quality opponents. The Cougars have already scheduled against several Pac-12 members: Arizona, Arizona State, Utah & Stanford. They have also set up matches against Wisconsin and Virginia.
