BYU and soon to be fellow Independent UMass have announced a future 4 game series for the 2016-2019 seasons. The University of Massachusetts currently is a member of the Mid-American Conference (through the 2015 season).
The first two games of this new series will be played at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, UT on October 8, 2016, and November 18, 2017. UMass will host the following two games in the series on November 10, 2018 and November 23, 2019. Those games will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, home of the NFL’s New England Patriots. The Minutemen have used Gillette Stadium before (playing all of their home games there in 2012 and 2013).
BYU Athletic Director Tom Holme shared,
“With UMass joining BYU as an independent football program in 2016 this series makes a lot of sense for both schools. It will be a great experience for our team to play at Gillette Stadium—home of the New England Patriots —in front of the BYU faithful in that part of the country.”
When the Cougars and Minutemen meet in 2016, this will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
