Michigan State and Brigham Young University have scheduled a home-and-home series beginning in 2016. The Spartans play host during the 2016 season on October 8th. Michigan State then will make the trip to Provo, Utah to take on the Cougars during the 2020 season.
“I’m excited about this series with one of the top programs in the Big Ten. We haven’t played many games in the Great Lakes region and I like scheduling opponents like Michigan State that we’ve never played in football. It’s exciting for Cougar Nation and it’s a great experience for our coaches and players.”
In addition to BYU, Michigan State previously added home-and-home series with BYU (2016, 2020), Arizona State (2018-19), Miami-Florida (2020-21) and Boise State (2022-23). The Spartans also extended their series with Notre Dame (2016-17, 2023, 2026-27). Michigan State Athletic Director Mark Hollis also shared his excitement about the upcoming series
“We continue to be aggressive and innovative in our approach to non-conference scheduling, as we seek to bring the top programs in college football to our state as well as provide our student-athletes with an opportunity to compete nationally at the highest level. The BYU series also provides MSU Alums in the Rockies and West with an opportunity to see the Spartans play against a national program.”
The two programs have never met and kudos to the programs for scheduling better competition.
