Fellow Missouri Valley Conference members 14-1 North Dakota State and 13-1 Illinois State meet this afternoon in the FCS Championship. They both shared a league title without having played each other this season. The 5th Seeded Illinois State Redbirds will try to capture their first National Championship and prevent the 2nd Seeded Bison from capturing their 4th consecutive FCS Championship trophy.
The FCS championship game will be in played in the home stadium of MLS team FC Dallas for the fifth year in a row. The Stadium is about 40 miles from the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium where the FBS Championship game between Oregon and Ohio State will take place on Monday.
North Dakota State has been the most dominant program willing to go up in competition and even defeat FBS programs routinely. While the Bison have developed a culture of success, they won’t find Redbirds content to be in the Championship finale. Illinois State comes into this with a ton of confidence, having a near flawless schedule. Both the Bison and Redbirds suffered their only loss to Northern Iowa. The Panthers defeated North Dakota State 23-3 back on November 8th & then Illinois State 42-28 on November 1st. The Redbirds got revenge for their only blemish in the Second Round of the playoffs, defeating Northern Iowa 41-21. You better believe that both coaching staffs have been watching film from those games.
NCAA Football Zone is predicting a win for the Bison of North Dakota State over a determined Illinois State.
