Are you really surprised by Chip Kelly naming Everett Golson as his Opening Day starting QB? Neither were we by the decision to name Golson the starter. The Junior signal caller missed the entire 2013 season due to academic suspension–hence why they are called student athletes and not athletes students, but that is for another day.
Coach Kelly shared with Blue and Gold that QB Golson,
“His spring practice and his leadership in the summer and camp here, he’s put himself in a position to get that opportunity.”
As a redshirt freshman, Golson started 10 games for Notre Dame in its undefeated march to the 2012 BCS championship game, going 10-1 and finishing the season with 2,405 passing yards, a 12-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 298 rushing yards.
