Report by the wvmetronews.com, WV RB Wendell Smallwood was arrested Monday and faces extradition to his home state of Delaware. The Sophomore is expected to be charged with witness intimidation stemming from a 2012 murder case.
Wilmington police told DelawareOnline.com that Smallwood, attempted to convince a witness to recant statements implicating a friend who is charged with first-degree murder.
This certainly does not help the Mountaineer program looking for a better season after going 4-8 and 2-7 in Big 12 Conference play. Smallwood’s Freshman campaign included an average of 5.7 yards per carry and he also added 11 catches for 132 yards. The coaching staff were hoping he could fill the role occupied last season by third-round NFL draft pick Charles Sims.
