The rich keep getting richer, especially with the University of Alabama. In an article by Al.com, the Alabama Athletic Department reported a $33 million Operating Surplus (2013-2014). This was an increase from the $27.2 it made the previous year (2012-13). It’s no surprise that the Football Program is driving the surplus. Nick Saban’s program had a $53.3 million surplus with revenues of $95.3 million.
Think about Alabama’s success compared to their SEC Rival Auburn which reportedly operated their Athletic Department at a $13.6 million deficit. Alabama’s Athletic Department also transferred $9.1 million back to the university last year after contributing $5.9 million a year earlier. Wondering if a little generosity could have helped to save UAB’s Football program? Just putting it out there.
Nice job Crimson Tide! Money continues to drive this sport.
