South Carolina held on to defeat Georgia 38-35 Saturday giving Steve Spurrier his 201st victory as an SEC coach. The victory tied Spurrier for second all-time with Vince Dooley.
Georgia had first-and-goal on the 4 yard line and could not punch it in. After Hutson Mason was called for intentional grounding, Georgia relied on kicker Marshall Morgan to tie the game. Morgan missed and the Gamecocks were able to secure the victory and place themselves in the drivers seat for the SEC East Division race.
Up next for the ol ball coach and his Gamecocks is a date with Vanderbilt and Georgia will lick its wounds against a visiting Troy Trojans team who could be looking for its first victory of the season. I don’t believe they will be received well in Athens.
