Tennessee head coach Butch Jones announced Tuesday that starting offensive tackle Jacob Gilliam tore his ACL in the season opener and would be lost for the 2014 season. The fifth year Senior made the first start of his career against Utah State at left tackle. This is a huge loss as Tennessee was replacing its entire Offensive line.
Jones said he felt “awful” for the hard-working Gilliam, but that Tennessee had no choice but not move on. Redshirt freshman Brett Kendrick finished the game in Gilliam’s place but the Vol’s coach also expects Junior Dontavius Blair to also compete for the starting position.
“I love him, I love his family and I love everything they stand for.”
Gilliam shared via his Twitter page,
I want to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I will make it through this.
