Will the Bayou Classic actually drop Grambling University? According to a report by WWLTV.com, managers of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the host site for the Bayou Classic, have discussed potentially replacing Grambling as the annual opponent for Southern.
Apparently low attendance in recent years is the reasoning for a possible replacement.
Robert Bruno, Commissioner of the LSED siad, “If Grambling has fallen off that bad, maybe Southern could take the lead and it could be an earned-in game and bring in somebody else. I just don’t know if Grambling can carry the load.”
Outside of the FCS Championship game, few games from the world of FCS football receive much national exposure. I personally look forward to this game every year and I love the half-time show and the tradition of these two programs. These two schools have faced each other every season since 1974. I would think that performance or lack of from Grambling has much to do with this conversation.
Let’s hope for a better outcome both in attendance and performance from Grambling to make this classic stay a classic.
